Colours have great power! They can cheer us up, soothe us, make us act or think creatively, and make us irritated and depressed. Taking inspiration from the psychology of colours can help us in the difficult choice of the right colours for our apartment, so that it is perfectly suited to our needs and character traits. Remember, however, that we can learn the most about colours from our own observations - what colours we like to surround ourselves with, what colours our clothes have and what objects catch our eyes can be a very important hint. Let's arrange our interiors individually and in our own way, do not be afraid of experiments - thanks to this, we will create a space where we really feel at home!

The influence of colours on emotions

How we perceive specific colours depends largely on our emotional sphere - experiences, as well as instincts and associations that they evoke in us. Each colour we see is a visual impression that produces electromagnetic waves of different lengths appropriate to that shade. Warm colours, such as red and yellow, have longer wavelengths, which our brain needs to use more energy to process than for the perception of cooler colours, such as blue or green. The more energy our body has to put into recognizing a given wave, the faster its metabolism, and thus the higher the state of arousal. Conversely - the shorter the wave, the faster it is recognized, and it costs us less energy, calming us down. So it is safe to say that colours affect us already at a physiological level.

However, the way we perceive them is influenced not only by the functioning of our body, but also by the culture in which we were brought up. A simple example is the equation of red with blood and violence, white with innocence and purity, and black with mourning - therefore red can be associated with aggression, white with sterility and severity of a hospital corridor, and black with a feeling of depression. Now that we know how colours affect our emotions, let's see how some of them can affect us!

Green - fashion in harmony with nature The green colour is experiencing its true renaissance - the interior is dominated by saturated emeralds, turquoise and delicate grassy shades. Amid the rushing pace of life, we increasingly want to escape to nature by introducing its elements to our immediate space. Green is considered the most relaxing colour, which is a symbol of harmony, freshness, positive energy and fertility. Just like blue, it enhances the sense of security in us, which makes it a perfect colour for interior design of houses and apartments. The relaxing effect of greenery makes it conducive to relaxation, reduces stress and has a positive effect on the development of interests. In which rooms will it work? Green is extremely versatile, so it will fit perfectly both in the bedroom, as well as in the kitchen, living room, hallway or child's room - its intensity should be adjusted to the level of interior lighting, and choosing a shade, follow your own preferences. Avoid bright, unnatural shades that can convey an atmosphere of artificiality. Let's focus on pastel colours that are calm colours.

Yellow - optimism in a nutshell

None of the colours have such positive connotations as yellow, which we associate with the best of everything. Sun, summer, warm sand and pure happiness - these are the shades of yellow. This colour is closely related to the feeling of joy and good energy, as well as the intellect, as it promotes clarity of thoughts and remembering. Perfectly enlivens and brightens, so it is worth using it in insufficiently lit interiors. It will be perfect for a family living room, kitchen as well as a child's room - it is universal and versatile, it combines well with other colours. However, it is a colour that cannot be overdone, it is also worth carefully considering the selection of the appropriate shade, because probably the shades of yellow can make us feel nervous in their surroundings - avoid neon, glaring colours, as well as shades falling into green. Orange - a compromise for red

The orange colour is a neat combination of the character of red and the mildness of yellow. It vitalizes and stimulates action, as well as fills you with optimism. It is an extremely popular colour that has been present in our homes for years, both on the walls and among accessories. Orange is a positive combination of energy and positive thinking that lovers like to act and spend time actively. This colour is one of the most joyful colors that we can successfully invite to our immediate space - remember, however, that not everyone will feel good in such a characteristic environment. If a calm thinker lives in our house, let us arrange for him a room bathed in cold colours, conducive to concentration. Orange has many names - we can choose the subtle shades that you can see in the photo gallery on our website.

Blue - the power of peace that delights

No wonder that blue returns to decorative favours! Its deep, dark shades perfectly fit into modern interiors, and delicate blues cover our closest spaces with a mist of delicacy. What does the colour blue symbolize? It is a colour that calms us down, helps us focus, and evokes a sense of security. It is the coldest colour that we associate with open space - the sky and the endless sea, positively influencing creativity, as well as spiritual development and intuition. As a complete opposite of red, it lowers blood pressure, has a soothing and calming effect - so it will be perfect in the bedroom, ensuring a good night's sleep. It brings to mind associations with cleanliness, which is why it is also often used in the kitchen, which is interesting, but it inhibits the appetite, remember about it when we decide on the "total look" interior, and our house is inhabited by a small fussy eater. It is a great colour for painting a child's room, home office or living room - it is extremely elegant and at the same time has a salutary effect on our emotions. No wonder it's statistically one of your favourite colours!

Violet - a little magic in our home

Violet, as another colour from the series of cold ones, also helps to calm down and regenerate. Being in rooms whose walls are painted purple can relieve stress and make it easier to fall asleep. Violet promotes concentration, helps to develop intuition and creativity, so in many respects its influence on human emotions is similar to blue. Violet, however, has something magical about it, it can make interiors fill with mysterious energy or envelop a haze of noble luxury. In excess, it can be melancholic, so it is worth using it in moderation, for example by painting one wall - preferably facing the window. This is a perfect colour for a representative living room that we want to envelop in an atmosphere of chic and elegance - let's just look at the shades in the photo gallery on our website and they will definitely inspire you.

Red - is it worth using it indoors?

Red is a colour with a high emotional charge - it is clear, rich and it is difficult to pass by indifferently. It is a colour that calls for activity, stimulates us to act, releases adrenaline in us, which raises blood pressure. It excites, stimulates and catches the eye. So is it worth painting the walls in your apartment a fiery shade of red? The answer is not as unequivocal as it might seem. Red can also stimulate and hinder concentration, so it is not a colour recommended for painting children's rooms, where colours should favour quiet learning. However, it is a perfect colour for painting interiors, such as a hall, a corridor, a home gym or even a kitchen, favouring the dynamic character of the rooms. We also associate red very positively - with the feeling of love and the warmth of fire, people who like to surround themselves with this colour may be tempted to paint one of the walls in the living room or bedroom with it to add a romantic character to the interior.
